.xlsm files only open read only
I have created Excel files in Excel 2003 with embedded macros. As we have been upgraded to Excel 2010, I have saved the files as .xlsm and saved them on our shared network. If I reopen the file, which I created, on a drive to which I have read write access, the file opens and before the file becomes available I get a message in the taskbar which says "Now saving temporary file." The file is then only available read only. The only way around it is if I hold the shift key down, as you would do to interrupt an auto_open macro. The file does not have an auto-open macro (I know, I wrote all the macros!) I have tried saving the file to my desktop, so not on the network, but it makes no difference. Intriguingly, I have just received, by email, a .xlsm file from a colleague. It opened read write, both directly from the email and when it saved it to the network. This suggests that it is not my settings, but I can work on files created by other people, but not created by myself? Is this a design feature of Excel 2010? If not, does anyone known how I get full access to my own files? Or is that the system is differentiating between macros written in Excel 2010 and those upgraded from Excel 2003? Do I have to rewrite ALL my macros? I am not liking this new "feature"  Thanks

Hi Evan,

Please try to right click the .xlsm file, choose Properties to check if the file is blocked, also click security tab to check if your user account has the full control of this file.
