.docx attachments in OWA do not save as .docx!
I recently rebuilt my desktop machine. Now when I access my exchange server via webmail on this machine any .docx attachments that I save to open are saved as a compressed file. .doc are fine, but docx are not. I have run all updates for this computer. I'm running Office 2007 and IE 8. I was having issues, so I tested all steps on the same workstation. I save word doc on my machine as a .docx. i can open here or elsewhere. I attach in Outlook. I open Webmail. It forces me to right click it and save it - so I do. It only gives me the choice of saving it as a compressed file. Which I do. But when I extract, - I don't find my word docx again.

Hi, Did this issue occur to all the Exchange Users? If yes, then please try to follow the steps below to solve the problem. 1. In IIS Manager-> Right-click on server name -> Properties -> MIME Types -> New -> Add the new Office 2007 file types (.docx application/msword) 2. In ESM -> Global Settings > Internet Message Formats > Properties > General > MIME > Content types > add the Office 2007 file types (application/msword docx) 3. In addition to simplify access to new file types we allow generic file types to be able to open directly in OWA. (Remove application/octet-stream from Level2MimeTypes under HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\MSExchangeWEB\OWA If it is a OWA 2007 related issue, then please feel free to let me know. Regards, Xiu

We have Exchange 2003 Enterprise with SP2. I like to create the folder with specific permission under Public Folder of Exchange and to place the document such as MS Word, Excel under the specific folder. Reading and accessing the documents are fine with MS Outlook 2007. However, when I tried to open with OWA for Exchange 2003, it didnt work as I expected. I have followed the steps in this article. However, I am still having the error message to open office 2007 application, like aaa.docx via OWA. The error is HTTP 403 Forbidden. Please note that I got the same error for other extensions such as .txt, .doc and .pfd which are fine to view with MS Outlook 2007. Could you advice on that? Thanks. Kyi
