(Exchange2007) Outlook meeting request received as EMAIL with no Accept or Decline buttons
Hello all,This one has me stumped, and I have searched this site as well as Google for the answer, but found nothing but a thread with no answer. We sometimes get a meeting request in Outlook from another person in the office. The request shows as a regular email rather than a meeting request. The icon in the inbox is an email icon rather than a calendar item, and inside the request itself is just text with NO ACCEPT or DECLINE buttons of any kind.Example text:-----------From: xxxxxxxxxSent: Wednesday, August 13, 2008 2:16 PMTo: xxxxxxx'Subject: xxxxxxxxxx When: Thursday, August 21, 2008 3:00 PM-3:30 PM (GMT-05:00) Eastern Time (US & Canada).Where: xxx Offices*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*-----------This does not happen all the time, and it happens from different user mailboxes. We have mostly Outlook 2000 clients, but a few 2003 and 2007 mixed in. It can happen from any version to any version. The first time it happened (that was reported to me) it was from a 2000 client to a 2000 client. Just now I got one in my 2007 client from a 2003 client. The calendar appointment looks fine on the sender's side.Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks,Joe

Hi Joe, 1. Whether the sender and recipient users are on the same AD site? 2. If the user uses OWA to access the Meeting Request message, whether is it still displayed as a normal email instead of a meeting request? I would like to explain that a meeting request should have MAPI property PR_MESSAGE_CLASS which value is IPM.Schedule.Meeting.Request. A normal message will have the MAPI property PR_MESSAGE_CLASS which value is IPM.Note. The issue may occur: 1. Some third-party software such as spam filter software and disclaimer software change the mail format 2. Some Add-ins on the Outlook change the mail format To troubleshoot the possible cause 1, I suggest that you enable Pipeline Tracing: Using Pipeline Tracing to Diagnose Transport Agent Problems http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb125198(EXCHG.80).aspx Note: Because Pipeline tracing could place a large amount of strain on a system, I suggest that you disable it after gathering the information. To troubleshoot the possible cause 2, I suggest that you disable the Add-ins temporarily: Disable third-party add-ins of Outlook ================================== 1. Backup and then remove the following two registry keys: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\Outlook\Addins HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Office\Outlook\Addins 2. Restart the Outlook by using Outlook /Safe Mike

I also have a client with this problem, but, itappears to beunique to one external domain as far as testing has shown so far. If any user sends a meeting request to this particular domain, it will be received as a plain text e-mail. But if the request is sent to any other domain it will be received correctly as an invitation. If I send a meeting request to the domain in question from my own Exchange account is is received successfully at the external domain. If a user sends a meeting invite to me & the external domain, I receive it correctly and the external domain still receives it as plain text. I don't believe either of the above solutions explain this behaviour, any other ideas would be appreciated Thanks

I too am having the same issue. All internal meeting requests are sent and received without any issue. Users can accept, reject, propose new times, etc. All external meeting requests come across as plain text messages simply describing the details of the meeting but not ability for the user to accept / reject. Our environment is a mix of XP and Vista. All Office clients are Office 2007. We are using Exchange 2003. I have just placed a fix in our environment that you may consider. Our situation turned out to be related to our email scanning service, provided by MessageLabs. They place a banner indicating the message has been scanned and is deemed to be safe, which must somehow strip out the meeting request properties of the message. If you have Messagelabs, to remove the banner from your messages: 1) Sign into the MessageLabs administration tool 2) Go to the Configuration Tab 3) Click on the "Email Services Configuration" link 4) Click the "Anti-Virus" link 5) Click the "Banners" tab 6) Select the "No banner" radio button Thanks,Nick

I realize this is an old thread, but I am experiencing an identical issue, and was wondering if you could provide any extra details about Possible Cause 1. Particularly, where can I check the MAPI properties of the messages to see if the value PR_MESSAGE_CLASS has been altered? Could I check the invitation in the sender's Sent Items (or possibly in the sender's calendar item) to see if the PR_MESSAGE_CLASS differs from there to copy in the recipient's inbox? Thanks in advance for any assistance/advice you may be able to offer. Josef
