OLE DB Source using MDX stays yellow
Hi all , I use the OLE DB Source to read data from 2005s cube, using MDX expression . While using this component that will read from SQL Analysis Services all went well .. After trying change the connection to another SQL Analysis Services database contains similar cube structure on the same server, I got the problem : The component stays yellow and ends the process ! No errors occurs ! I can run the MDX versus the problematic database in the SQL Management and get the right answers . Is anybody knows why my component act that wierd ? thanks for advance , David .

Look into Process tab in BIDS while package is running, and post here any error or warning you get. Please mark as answer if this helps. Thanks. :-)

Hi , Did you mean Progress tab or the Process tab ?? Warnings :: [OLE DB Source [1]] Warning: The output "OLE DB Source Output" (11) references an external data type that cannot be mapped to a Data Flow task data type. The Data Flow task data type DT_WSTR will be used instead. [DTS.Pipeline] Warning: The output column "[Measures].[dt_last]" (196) on output "OLE DB Source Output" (11) and component "OLE DB Source" (1) is not subsequently used in the Data Flow task. Removing this unused output column can increase Data Flow task performance. [OLE DB Source [1]] Warning: The output "OLE DB Source Output" (11) references an external data type that cannot be mapped to a Data Flow task data type. Removing this unused output column can increase Data Flow task performance. These are the Warnings (no errors !!), but I think I passed it in a not so smart trick : I've just took the same data, but not in a classical MDX (using subquery and the operator 'top' instead of 'ButtomCount' - both reading from the cube) . Still wondering what could be the diferences between the MDX running against the management Vs. MDX code running in the OLEDB Source Editor ?! Thank you for reference , David .

go to OLE DB Connection -> Advanced -> Extended Properties and set Format=Tabular from http://www.sqlservercentral.com/articles/MDX/64697/
