word doc file opened from sharepoint, will be saved as dot as default
Hello, we have some word (doc) document in a documentlibrary. When a user opens the doc-file and wants to save the file, word suggest the .dot extension, why ? If I look at properties on the word files, it says: .doc as extension. How to solve this problem ? Users should not save the files as .dot, but as .doc. JakobJakob Olsen

Hi,Which office version do you have?dose this happen for all users?if you have 2007, be sure to review this settings Double-click Microsoft Office Word 2007, double-click Word Options, and click Save. In the right pane, right-click Save files in this format, and select Properties. In Save files in this format, select Enabled. In the drop-down box, select a default file save format. Click Apply to save the settings. Best Regards, Ammar MCT http://ahmed-ammar.blogspot.com Posting is provided "AS IS" with no warranties, and confers no rights.

I use Word 2007, but the user who reported the "error" works in 2003. So I don't think it should be a setting in word. (but I could be wrong) But why will word save the file as a .dot, when the file is opened as a .doc ?Jakob Olsen

Hi Jakob Olsen, I agree with Ammar. If this issue happens on specific user(s), it should be caused by the client, not the SharePoint server side. You have a check the settings Ammar suggested on both Word 2007 and Word 2003 of that user client. Best Regards.Lily Wu

Looks like it was an error from the vendor of a module we were using. Thanks for your feedback.Jakob Olsen
