windows installer reconfigures Configuration Manger Client several times a day
I have a lab where there is some certification testing is going on. During the test, if the windows installer service starts for any reason, it causes the testing process to freeze and the teacher has to restart the computer. Upon examining the windows application logs, I'm finding that the Configuration Manger client is reconfiguring itself at least once a day and sometimes more. Log Name: Application Source: MsiInstaller Date: 3/30/2012 11:59:29 AM Event ID: 1035 Task Category: None Level: Information Keywords: Classic User: SYSTEM Computer: 7342TDE105C12.ucps.k12.nc.us Description: Windows Installer reconfigured the product. Product Name: Configuration Manager Client. Product Version: 4.00.6487.2000. Product Language: 1033. Manufacturer: Microsoft Corporation. Reconfiguration success or error status: 0. Event Xml: <Event xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/win/2004/08/events/event"> <System> <Provider Name="MsiInstaller" /> <EventID Qualifiers="0">1035</EventID> <Level>4</Level> <Task>0</Task> <Keywords>0x80000000000000</Keywords> <TimeCreated SystemTime="2012-03-30T15:59:29.000000000Z" /> <EventRecordID>28567</EventRecordID> <Channel>Application</Channel> <Computer>7342TDE105C12.ucps.k12.nc.us</Computer> <Security UserID="S-1-5-18" /> </System> <EventData> <Data>Configuration Manager Client</Data> <Data>4.00.6487.2000</Data> <Data>1033</Data> <Data>0</Data> <Data>Microsoft Corporation</Data> <Data>(NULL)</Data> <Data> </Data> I cannot identify what is causing this. It happens right after Windows Management Instrumentation Service subsystems initialized successfully Please advise on how I can identify the cause and stop this from happening during the testing periods.

Sorry for the delay. We are on R3 and have not pushed out KB977384 and are not using the power management part yet.

This problem isn't SCCM but a problem with a group policy or query on the machine: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/974524 http://www.sccm-tools.com http://sms-hints-tricks.blogspot.com
