windows 2012 print server problem with XP clients

hi,

i install print server role in windows server 2012 datacenter. i can deploy printers via group policy to windows 7 clients and everything goes fine but with XP clients i had to install "pushprinterconnection.exe" on clients after that the printers added to client when i right click i got the next message "the microsoft enhanced point and print compatibility driver, printer driver is not installed on this computer".

i check the printer sharing technical details:

http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/jj590748.aspx

i think windows xp will not work. my question if there is another way to do that.

thanks

XP will not work with the version 4 driver model. Use a version 3 print driver for the share or create a new share using a v3 driver for the XP clients. If you switch the V4 share to V3 you will need to unshare the printer and share after updating the printer settings.

Can you give more details on switching to a version 3? I am having the same issue. I have a 2012 print server running and xp error is the same as above. In the properties box of the printer the driver box is greyed out.

Add a new printer that uses a V3 driver but directed to the same TCP/IP Port.  Delete the V4 share you created, then rename the V3 share to the original name so anyone with an existing connection will reconnect and pick up the V3 driver.

Greetings,

Can you elaboratee on how exactly to "add a new printer that uses a v3 driver"?

Every time I add the printer in print Management it automatically sets it up as a v4 driver.

Thanks,

Ed

When you download from the manufacturers website just select V3. Install and then add V4 on top of that. It worked for me. I guess it just wanted to see V3 drivers first.

If you are using WSD Ports, Add Printer will generate a Plug and Play style install. You can select to add the printer using a TCP/IP Port or just change the driver to a V3 driver on the Advanced tab of the print properties after you have added the share.

Hi,

I have the same problem. I don't install Shared Printer in Windows XP 32 bits. My server is Windows 2012 R2. I have installed a 32 bit driver to the Print Servers but i don't modify the drivers to the configuration of file printer.

Can you help me please ?

Thanks

Mathieu

Hi Mathieu

When using Type 4 print drivers , XP is not supported.  You will have to replace these drivers with Type 3 drivers from Windows Update or software from the printer vendor.
