why sharepoint 2013 creates a dependency between having friendly URLs & Managed navigation

I have created a new site collection of type Enterprise wiki. And I cannot understand the following default navigation setting:-

I mean why I need to use managed navigation to get friendly URLS ?? why I cannot use for example use structural navigation and still get friendly URLS for my wiki pages ? Can anyone advice, what is the idea of this? I mean managed navigation is different than having friendly URLS , but seems in SP to get friendly URL I need to use managed navigation !! cannot understand the dependency here?

Second question let say I define Global Navigation to have Managed Navigation , while Current Navigation to use Structural Navigation, in this case I can get friendly url with structural navigation is this correct ?

Friendly URLs are configured and stored as part of a MMS hierarchy. That's just how they're done.

I suspect that your structured navigation will not use/allow friendly URLs.

Yes my structural navigation will not allow friendly URLs, but my question is why friendly urls  is linked to using managed navigation in sharepoint?? i mean friendly urls is something different from having or not having managed navigation is this correct?.

second question which is somehow related to my original question; Now in my case I already have a wiki site collection which has its global and current navigation defined as structural navigation. And we already have around 600 wiki pages created, where they can only be accessed using their actual page path such as /pages/123.aspx, since I am not using managed navigation. Also in my case i have hide the global navigation as per our customer requirements. now to enable friendly urls inside my current wiki site collection i did the following; I set the global navigation to use managed navigation instead of structural (as i mentioned the whole global navigation is hidden in my case using CSS and javascript), this allow new wiki pages to have friendly urls, but existing wiki pages will still have the old non-friendly urls, so is there a way to fix this on existing wiki pages? so they can also be accessed using friendly urls ?

Hi,

For your first problem:

The managed navigation feature in SharePoint Server 2013 enables you to build navigation for a publishing site that is derived from a SharePoint managed metadata taxonomy. Managed navigation lets you create friendly URLs without changing the structure of your site.

Friendly URLs are URLs that correspond to a term in the navigation term set, and that provide a shorter, more meaningful URL to a page. This makes the URL more useful to visitors to your site, and also improves search engine optimization (SEO) for your site.

For detailed information, refer to the following article about managed navigation in SharePoint Server 2013:

https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dn194311.aspx?f=255&MSPPError=-2147217396

For your second problem:

When managed navigation is configured, two additional settings are also configured: new pages are automatically added to navigation, and friendly URLs are automatically created for new pages. this allow new wiki pages to have friendly urls, but existing wiki pages will still have the old non-friendly urls.

To make the existing wiki pages have frendly urls, you need to set it one by on from the Term Store,
