I was really exited about premium storage until I found out that my most intensive tasks, which are both CPU and IO intensive cannot use it. The reason: the DS series CPUs are a lot slower than the compute (A8-11) and G(1-5). So while my IO got faster, my computations got slower...So now I have to pick between fast IO and fast CPU. Ideally you would have made this available to A/G instance users too. I really hope you have an AS and GS instance plan down the road.

As of now, the premium storage is available only with DS services VM.

DS series was introduced like a D series with Premium Storage. Microsoft is working on delivering the best valuable compute and storage performances for it's Azure customers, and the work to achieve this is huge. Premium Storage had hit GA yesterday, and the work will continue (I don't have proofs or stream line) to extend it to other VM series. We will see Azure road map soon
