wds service won't start
sccm 2007 r3 I have 9 pxe servers (secondaries) that have worked perfectly for the last 6 months now all of a sudden NONE of them work, the common denominator is the the wds service will not start. I uninstalled and re-installled and the service starts and works for a while then stops and will not restart, can anyone help?? The SMS PXE Service Point failed to read and configure the registry keys necessary for this component. Possible cause: The registry information is not available yet. Solution: Restart the WDS Service. The SMS PXE Service Point failed to Initialize the Database Connection. XE Control Manager detected PXE service point is not responding to PXE requests. The error is 16389.

Not sure this will fix your problem, but it's worth a shot... My colleague Kent wrote this post on an WDS error he encountered, where a delayed start of the WDS service fixed the problem.. http://blog.coretech.dk/kea/wds-service-stopping-after-system-restart/Michael Petersen http://blog.coretech.dk/mip/

you can configure SCCM to check if WDS is started and if not to start the service, see here for how http://www.windows-noob.com/forums/index.php?/topic/3193-problems-with-wds-service-failing-from-time-to-time/ My step by step SCCM Guides I'm on Twitter > ncbrady

thanks but that didnt work. here is something else I discovered, I created a udl and tested it. cant paste it but here is what it says Test connection failed because of an error in initializing provider. {DBNETLIB} ConnectionOpen (Connect()) SQL Server does not exist or access denied I've tried the same connector on other sccm secondaries and it works perfectly. I checked the site server database and the troubled computer is listed in all the same roles and the non troubled secondaries. I can ping and access share on the site server from the troubled secondary as well. when I point to any other DB the test works so I'm guess the site server is rejecting it? Any ideas?

Nice, I like this but the service still doesn't start, after further checking I think its due to not being able to connect to the site server DB but I have no idea why,
