user permission in granula level in SharePoint version 2
Hi, everyone: I am administrator of a SharePoint v2 site. I found that I can either give "view item" or "view item, insert item, remove item and update item" permission to users, no middle. However, I do wish to give some users "view, edit" permission, but no "insert and remove item" permission. So, does SharePoint v2 support this in out of box feature? if yes, how to make it, if no how can we achieve in easiest way? Thank u MySTfrom Finland :D

You can achieve this by creating a custom permission level. Below are the steps to create a new custom permission level. 1.Go Site Permissions (http://url/_layouts/user.aspx) of the respective site. (or Go to site setting and click on Advanced permission in Users and Permission section) 2. Go the permissions list setting and click on the permission level. 3. Click on the Add Permission Level in the permission level page 4. Give the name of the new permission level and select below check boxs in the list permission section (leave other by default marked check box as is) >> Edit Items >> View Items 5. Click on Create button 6. Now you can use this Newly created permission level to specific user or to a group. 7. I would suggest you to use this permission level only on the required list or doc library Note: This custom permission levels will be overwritten by parent permissions when you create this at granular level. Better create this at parent level and use it. It up to you requirement. Hope your problem will be solved Senthilrajan Kaliyaperumal

Hi, Thanks for your reply! However, the steps you offer is for SharePoint v3 or MOSS2007, it does not apply to old SharePoint version 2 :( Is there any solution fit version 2 ? Br, MySTfrom Finland :D

For instance, in SPv2, I can see "Advanced permission" set for "Contributor" role, however, I can only tick/untick the check box for "Add List Items, Edit List Items, Delete List Item". it seems no way to customize and create a new role. from Finland :D
