Hi,- your SQL on the same SharePoint box or not?- SharePoint SP1 now supports SQL Server 2008, so have you applied SPs or what SharePoint version do you have?if you have at least SharePoint SP1 you can follow the following steps to upgrade to SQL 2008http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms144267.aspx during upgrade nothing to do with SharePoint Services, as the SQL upgrade will manage all connections to the databases, drop, stop and restartsome errors will appear in the SharePoint event log regarding database connectionjust when the upgrade finish, all services should be running againPLEASEBackup all your Databases before the upgrade Best Regards, Ammar MCT http://ahmed-ammar.blogspot.com Posting is provided "AS IS" with no warranties, and confers no rights.

There are few things to keep in mind...1> Is your sharepoint a stand alone one or on a server farm?2> Is your sharepoint ready to sit on SQL 2008 as migrating to SQL 2008 requires that MOSS 2007 be updated with Sp1 or Sp2..3> Is the sharepoint site a production or a test/staging server?4> You can have a look at the URL http://troubleshooterms.blogspot.com/2009/12/migration-of-sql-server-20002005-to-sql.html for helping you decide to go for inplace upgrade or side by side upgrade. This will help you decide on the downtime you require for.5> Take all the DB backups before you proceed with this change.Hope this helps...

Would it be a problem if I do the SP1 installation. Have you come across any SP1 intallation failure?3> Is the sharepoint site a production or a test/staging server?it is a production server.4> You can have a look at the URL http://troubleshooterms.blogspot.com/2009/12/migration-of-sql-server-20002005-to-sql.html for helping you decide to go for inplace upgrade or side by side upgrade.
