updates are downloading to cache but not showing in Software Center. They are also picked up by Windows Update....

SCCM 2012 R2 CU4

Server 2012 R2

Like the title says, with some recent 2012 R2 server deployments, they are not pulling in all the software updates into Software Center. A couple of security updates show up but there should be like 30.

When I run Windows Update and check the internet, it shows 40+ updates needed. Most of which I have deployed to this server. When you look at the cache you can see a bunch of updates downloaded to cache (most match up with what windows update sees as needed) but they do not show up in Software Center!?

I've ran and re-ran appropriate actions, restarted the server and client, reinstalled client, killed the cache and forced re-download of updates. Nothing makes a difference. Funny thing is, I have 2 different servers with this issue and they both pull in the same two updates below. I tried installing them then seeing if the rest of the updates show up - no luck.

I just ran the compliance report and there are about 20 updates marked as required but not installed. This matches the number of updates I see downloaded to the ccmcache.

I ran software updates scan cycle and software updates deployment eval cycle

  • wuahandler.log doesnt seem to show anything abnormal
  • updatedeployment.log has a ton of entries similar to this:

  • One thing that bothers me is if I open servicewindowmanager.log I see:

I've verified manually and with now micro right click tools that this server does in fact have a service/maintenance window. Even if it didn't, it shouldn't prevent updates from showing up in Software Center...

you seems to have MW for this client collection . Have a look at these blogs how the MW calculated and do the adjustments according to that.

I think you might be on the right path...

I did some more investigating and I seem to be having this issue with lots of servers all different OS's now. I've had SCCM up and running successfully for a few months now - I am not sure why it started now.

I moved a test server to a different group that does not have a maintenance window but still has all of our updates deployed to it as 'available'. The updates then showed up in Software Center.

I tested multiple groups/maintenance windows and each time it was moved the updates would disappear from Software Center. ALL of our maintenance windows (which are tied to appropriate groups) are 1 hour in length.

I've already set custom client settings and changed the temporary notification to 10 min and the countdown interval to 5 min (for a total of 15 min).

Is 45 minutes not sufficient anymore for my maintenance windows?

*edit*

I bumped those settings down to 5 + 1 and changed my one of my maintenance windows from 1 hour to 2 hours and that did not make a difference. So I tried 4 hours.... still not showing up.

Somewhere along the way the ADR I am using got set to 'hide in software center...' (we wanted to suppress the message to users that there were new updates) I didn't realize when I selected it that it would cause future updates to NOT show up in the Software Center.

I changed this to display in software center and only show notifications for compute restarts.

my bad...
