trying to make a TS that will work with Bare metal and if there is an existing OS on a machine.
Hi, I am trying to make a ts that will work with Bare metal OSD and also if there is a existing OSD. I would like to capture the computer name, before the osd and restore it later if the computer has an existing os on the hard drive, if it is a BARE metal, i'd like the capture computer name not to run, is it possible to do this? I assume to capture the computer name I use the option capture windows settings in the TS?

The default deployment TS does this using a conditional based on the _SMSTSLaunchMode variable.Jason | http://blog.configmgrftw.com | Twitter @JasonSandys

Do I have to set this up, with a condition on the TS step, or is it automatic?

Start by creating a default deployment TS using the wizard and look at it. It uses conditions to determine if it should capture user state.Jason | http://blog.configmgrftw.com | Twitter @JasonSandys

If the machine is already managed by SCCM (i.e., there is an SCCM client on the machine, or the machine is imported into SCCM), the name of the machine is stored in the SCCM database. If you image the machine using a task sequence, the task sequence will get that name from the database and use it as the machine name in the new OS.
