the "configuration database server" field in Central Administration tool of SPS 2003 is disabled
I have installed SPS 2003 with MSDE. It works fine. But after I successfully upgrade the backend database from MSDE to SQL Server 2005 on the same box, I found out the SPS 2003 is still pointing to the configuration database in MSDE. I went to the Central Administration tool->SharePoint Portal Server->Configure Configuration database Server, the "configuration database server" field is disabled. That means even the database engine upgrade, but the SPS 2003 is still using the configuration database in MSDE.Why I can not change the confoguration database from MSDE to SQL Server 2005? What kind of permission I am missing? Thanks in advance, Peter

Hi Peter, Possibly something to do with registering the MSDE in SQL - work through the article here that describes migrating from MSDE to SQL: http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/sharepointportaladmin/HA100241281033.aspx If you've done everything on the previous article, recheck IIS, SQL and even net connectivity http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx/kb/823287 One other thing to try is that if you are using a named instance to rename it; I have found out that when trying to upgrade from MSDE to SQL for SPS2003 is that sharepoint will think you are trying to upgrade an instance of MSDE. Change the instance to something else - for more information on changing SQL Aliases go here: http://www.mssqltips.com/tip.asp?tip=1620 Hope this helps Cheers Geoff
