The machine then rolls back to the previous windows and the same build runs again as an update. The first couple of times there was a C++ Runtime error in a popup box ( Aug 29 / 30 ), whereas in the latest two tries there was no popup, it just restarted and recovered, just today 8/31/2

The fastest way to get the upgrade is to download the ISO.  An ISO is like a dvd so to use it you will need to right click>mount.  Start the upgrade from within windows.
WARNING:  DO NOT USE THESE TO DO A CLEAN INSTALL (until after you have already updated).  If you do you will not be able to activate it unless you have previously upgraded to win 10 and activated it.  You then will be forced to re-install your previous OS before upgrading to win 10

The Official Final Windows 10 download is now available

GlennB_dev,

This error code can be caused by corrupted files or hard drive.

Please first run following commands to repair system files and disk error:

sfc /scannow

chkdsk /f /r

If the issue still persist, please post back the c:\windows.~bt\source\setuperr.log here for our research.

Also, You can try the ISO images for installation. If you have a file C:\$Windows.~BT\Sources\install.esd you could use that to create an ISO for Build 10525
