tasks in SCOM
Hello, I see several tasks under SCOM Console > Authoring > Management Pack Objects > Tasks like "ShutDown" under Type Virtual machine, Virtual Machine Manager 2007 Managed Virtual Machine,Virtual Machine Manager 2008 Managed Virtual Machine and VMGuest Virtual Machine. I am looking in the Monitoring Tab > Action > Windows Computer Tasks but I do not see these tasks available... Under Monitoring > Virtual machine Manager no machines is displayed ... What do I miss? I have the folloiwng MPS: - Microsoft System Center Virtial Manchine Manager 200 - Microsoft Virtual Server 2005 R2 - Microsoft Virtualization Core Library - Microsoft Virtualization Reports - System Center Virtual Machine Manager 2008 - System Center Virtual Machine Manager 2008 PRO Host Performance - System Center Virtual Machine Manager 2008 PRO Library - System Center Virtual Machine Manager 2008 PRO Virtual Machine Right-Sizing - System Center Virtual Machine Manager 2008 PRO VMware Host Performance - System Center Virtualization Reports 2008 - System Virtualization Library Any Idea? Hi. Do you see the tasks if you go to Discovered Inventory, and change the class to one of the following: Virtual machine, Virtual Machine Manager 2007 Managed Virtual Machine,Virtual Machine Manager 2008 Managed Virtual Machine and VMGuest Virtual Machine? Tasks are targeted at classes, just like rules and monitors, so you have to make sure you're looking at the correct class.Layne

Hi Dom Tasks are context sensitive - so if you are in the Windows All Computers State View, you'll see the windows tasks. If you are in a SQL State view, you'll see relevant SQL tasks. So if you are in a VMM state view then you'll see the virtual machine manager tasks. With regard to VMM - there is more to integrating VMM and OpsMgr than just importing Management Packs. Have you run through the guide: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc956099.aspx http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ee236428.aspx Cheers GrahamView OpsMgr tips and tricks at http://systemcentersolutions.wordpress.com/

Layne Hello, Discovery Inventory (Computer) (807) I see three Windows Computer Tasks: Ping Computer, Ping Computer (with route), Ping Computer Continously (ping -t). If I change the Target Type to Virtual Machine the list is longer but still no "Shutdown' (I have Start, Stop, Forefront .... etc...) the two other classes Virtual Machine Manager 2007 Managed Virtual Machine,Virtual Machine Manager 2008 Managed Virtual Machine I don't have any machine listed so no Tasks Meny on the right pane. Shutdown is listed under Authoring > Management Pack Objects > Tasks for the four classes... For the VMGuest I have: shutdownGuest Available and it works... So it might be an issue with the classes but is it normal to have all these classes with no Computer inside them or Computers (Virtual Machine) but not the tasks ...
