Could you please drag the table outside the other table? then I think you can change its dataset, if it still does not work, please delete it and then recreate a table again, after you complete the table's design, then put the table in the other table.Please remember to mark the replies as answers if they help and unmark them if they provide no help.

Hi Sammie, This is possible in reporting services, if you want to change embedded table's dataset, I would recommend you select the tablix's name in the properties dropdown list, then you can find DataSet property, then you can change it to other dataset, of course, you can make use of subreport, which will have a better performance.
