system center essentials pending reboot check error during install

I'm trying to install System Center Essentials on my server running Windows Server 2008 R2 Standard but everytime it gets to the prerequisite hardware and software check it tells me that there is a pending restart on my computer. Needless to say, I've tried restarting it but it doesn't help.

Also, I found a solution online that says to delete the key found at HKLM\SYSTEM\CurentControlSet\Control\SessionManager\PendingFileRenameOperations but the only key I can find similar is called FileRenameOperations. There was nothing in it so I deleted it but I'm still getting the error.

Hello,

What other softwares are you running? Did you encounter any installastion failure before?

Beside of the "HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager\PendingFileRenameOperations" key, please also check the following keys and remove any entries:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curr entVersion\RunOnce
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curr entVersion\RunOnceEx
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curr entVersion\RunServicesOnce
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curre ntVersion\RunOnce

If possible, I would suggest using a fresh installed Windows Server 2008.

Thanks,

I already reinstalled Windows Server 2008 because I thought that was my problem but it didn't help. The only other software I have running is SQL Server Express and it didn't give me any trouble during the install. Of the other keys you listed, I only found HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curr entVersion\RunOnce. There was nothing in it, but I still deleted it and I'm still getting the error.

I doubt this should matter but I am remoting into my server rather than standing infront of it to do this install.

Thanks

Fixed it. I went to the registry and used the find function to search "PendingFileRenameOperations". I found four different instances. Deleted them all and tried the install without restarting and it worked.

Hi,

I also had the same issue with the "PendingFileRenameOperations" key in the registry.

I deleted the entry from "HKLM\SYSTEM\CurentControlSet\Control\SessionManager\" and I can now continue with the installation.

Cheers

"If possible, I would suggest using a fresh installed Windows Server 2008."

Really?

"Hey.. my car's exhaust makes a weird noise.. can you help me?"
"Sure.. buy a new car!"
