subscription for sql server 2008 r2
I want to setup a subscription in sql server 2008 r2 standard edition database to do the following:
1. run an ssrs 2008 r2 report to run at a schedule time every day.
2. write the output of the ssrs 2008 r2 report to a specified file directory location.
I know the standard edition has more limitations than the enterprise edition has of the sql server database. However, I am hoping you can tell me what I can accomplish my goals using the standard edition of the sql server 2008 r2 database.

Hi Wendy
Thanks for your posting
You will be able to do file share subscription using SQL Server 2008 Standard edition. Couple of thing which you need to make sure
The SQL agent need to be running on the server in which your report server database sittingThe account which you used for file share must have permission to write to the network drive where you are saving the file
If you have any questions please do ask.
Many Thanks

Thank you for your response so far! However, I have the following additional questions:
1: When the subscription is setup, how will it know what ssrs 2008 r2 report to execute and what parameter values to give to the SSRS report? Is there an exe that is executed?
2. How does the subscription export the report that is generated to a PDF file in a specified directory path location?
3. I also want to subscription to execute a stored procedure that will export the data that appeared on the report to an excel spreadsheet for users to work with.
Thus can you tell me and/or point me to a reference that will show me how to accomplish these tasks?

Hi Wendy
Thanks for your posting
When you create a subscription all the set up information will be stored inside report server database table called
[ReportServer].[dbo].[Subscriptions]
So all your parameter info file path and type of file which you would like to save (PDF/XML/XLS etc)
If you see my post above I have requested you that the SQL agent must be running on the serevr where your report server database is
So when you craete a subscription it will create a job under your sql agent for all the info what time
it suppose to run etc
So you can run your report subscription for XLS file as well just change the output type from PDF to XLS and now you are done
For your reference I am putting screenshot.
If you have any questions please do ask.
Many Thanks
