stsadm restore failed
Hi, I fall in the big trouble, and i dont know how to get out of it. I have bunch of site collections in our Web app and i want to move the few big site collections from one content DB to another Content DB with in the Webapp. out of 6, 5 went sucessfully and only one site having the issue and throughin the following error: "The site collection could not be restored. If this problem persists, please make sure the content databases are available and have sufficient free space" I performed the following steps: take the backup using stsadm restore using the stsadm restore. for troubleshooting i did the following stuff. I restore it with overwrite switch, no luck. I checked the plenty of space available on all drives and even on the Database server. i try to restore it in a newly created content db but its failed with same error. i try to restore it with other farms its worked Please help me how can i get back that site, its production issue. thanks -wsSharePoint administrator, MCTS,MCITP

Check out the Application log in Event Viewer on the SharePoint server. It should have more detailed info on what caused the issue. Paste any relavent errors here.

Hi waqas105, This issue occurs if your computer that is running WSS has insufficient free disk space that is available to host the restored WSS Web Site. Also it may occur if the WSS database has reached its maximum allowed size. Here is a KB article, you can get more detailed information and the solution of this problem from it: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/926061. Hope this helps. Regards.

Yes, we checked all stuff but their is no discrepancy, like Database growth is set auto and we have more then 500 gb free space on data drive and same story with Server drive where we host the wss sites. even we try to create a new content db within the same web app and then target to that content db but still the error. But when we try to restore it to the our test farm its successful. its weired nothing in the Logs files. thanks -wsSharePoint administrator, MCTS,MCITP

Hi waqas105, The question sounds very strange. You said that there is nothing in the Logs files except the error message you have provided. This error message represents the problem lie in your DB. But there is no problem with you DB… Okay, could you please check the following thread, many users expressed their views about this issue there, maybe you can find the answer from it: http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/sharepointadmin/thread/7a9ec8b0-7f7e-4bfa-89fa-7c0e6cb840de. Hope this could help you. Regards.

Can you give us an example of the existing URL of one of the site collections and the new URL you want that site collection to have?
