I've deleted the very short post you made on the same subject to a thread that last had movement 9 months ago.Either post to an existing thread (preferably a still active one) OR start a new thread (usually better as you can give a new subject that matches YOUR question) but don't do both, please.WSS FAQ sites: WSS 2.0: http://wssv2faq.mindsharp.com WSS 3.0 and MOSS 2007: http://wssv3faq.mindsharp.com Total list of WSS 3.0 and MOSS 2007 Books (including foreign language titles) http://wssv3faq.mindsharp.com/Lists/v3%20WSS%20FAQ/V%20Books.aspx

Hi,make sure that you run the stsadm command with a logged on user that has the correct permission.Try to run the command directly from the server.Cheers, Daniel Bugday Web: SharePoint Forum Blog: Daniel Bugday's SharePoint Blog

The ID that you are running the STSADM command needs to have access to the configdb. I've seen this issue countless times, even in my own environment especially if you are trying to run the command under your ID. Even if you are a Farm Administrator and Admin on the server itself you still need to have write access to the SP Configdb. Try adding the ID there and give it a try.John SharePoint911: SharePoint Consulting Blog: http://www.rossonmoss.com Twitter: JohnRossJr MOSS Explained: An Information Workers Deep Dive into Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007

Thanks for your reply John! Additionally to the Configdb, I've discovered this stsadm command requires write access to a db called SharePoint_AdminContent... Not sure what all these dbs are, but it appears to me if headaches are to be avoided, the user running this stsadm command needs DBO rights to all Sharepoint db's

I see you managed to solve the problem. However I've received the same error in Windows 2008 Server, and find out that you must start the command line with "Run as administrator" in order to be able to install the features.

Hi John, Could you possibly help - I have similiar situation where I am trying to rename the AdminContent_<GUID> database name. The web application pool runs under SharePoint.svc The SharePoint.svc user has the permissions dbo, datareader, datawriter I am running stsadm command "stsadm -o deletecontentdb -url http://apps01:65000/ -databasename SharePoint_AdminContent_7611c14c-139f-453f-900a-25115283c0a1 -databaseserver sharepointdb\instance" using a RunAs Commnd Prompt to use the SharePoint.svc account, and yet I still get the access denied error. I can't seem to resolve the issue for love nor money. I would hugely appreciate any help.
