staff contact list from Member list?
We have a small department internal sharepoint site. I want to create a list of staff. Each staff person is already in the Members Group. I don't see anyway to add additional columns to the Members list, so it seems I have to make a separate new list. I tried a contact list, but that list doesn't let me make the primary field person/group column type (so I could make this list only consist of site Members). Is there a work around to this? Other suggestions for a small staff list?

If you're running MOSS then you could follow the steps outlined in this article: http://sharepointbriefing.com/features/article.php/3884376/Leverage-SharePoint-Search-to-Create-a-Department-Directory.htm If you have WSS, you should be able to install search server express and do the same. This approach is probably better than a custom list since it's entirely AD driven.--Paul Galvin, Computer Generated Solutions (CGS) Microsoft MVP - SharePoint Blogging @ http://www.mstechblogs.com/paul Twitter @ http://www.twitter.com/pagalvin

> If you have WSS, you should be able to install search server express and do the same. That article says "The core solution relies upon SharePoint's People Search functionality". The main difference between the search provided by WSS 3-0 + Search Server Express 2008 and the search provided by MOSS 2007 is that People Search is only supported in MOSS 2007 search. I.e. in this case the article is only a solution for MOSS 2007 users and won't work for WSS 3.0 even if Search Server is added. Sorry, Paul. Nice try.
