ssrs reporting DB running 2008 r2 sidebyside sharepoint reporting reporting DB
Currently I have 2008 r2 server running a non SharePoint reporting service DB. I am testing SharePoint integration with SSRS. I presume I can i run two reporting db's on the same server? One SharePoint and one non SharePoint? Are there any tricks to installing the SharePoint reporting services db? Thanks

Hi SBolton, Thanks for your question. According to your description, my understanding is that there is one server with Windows Server 2008 R2 operating system, you had installed SQL Server instance and Reporting Services in it, you would like to installed SharePoint application in this server too, meanwhile create the SharePoint configure database in this existent instance too, then integrate the Reporting Services and SharePoint, right? If I misunderstand your question, please let me know. If in this case, I would say it is OK. Actually, in order to configure one Reporting Services in SharePoint Integrated mode, you should follow below three steps: installed Reporting Services, installed SharePoint application, integrate them. For step one and two, I would recommend you reference one article of Installing SharePoint 2010 on Windows 2008 Server R2: http://mosshowto.blogspot.com/2009/11/installing-sharepoint-2010-windows-2008.html. For step three, please see the detail steps in this MSDN article, Configuring Reporting Services for SharePoint 2010 Integration: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb326356(v=sql.110).aspx. Hope these help you. If there is anything unclear, please feel free let me know. Yes, it's possible to run BOTH a "native" mode Reporting Services catalog on the same SQL Server as a SharePoint Integrated mode catalog. No, there is no migration utility to transmogrify an existing native mode catalog to SharePoint. One approach that I have taken leverages the Visual Studio/BIDS configuration manager to create separate deployment targets for each of the targetted catalogs. This way you can create a single project and with a single configuration selection change the project properties for the entire solution to point to either native or SharePoint. I also use RSScripter to create the Visual Studio BIDS projects. hth__________________________________________________________________ William Vaughn Author, Mentor, Trainer, MVP Beta V Corporation William Vaughn's blog Hitchhikers Guide to Visual Studio and SQL Server (7th Edition) The Owl Wrangler a fantasy fiction novel Please click the Mark as Answer button if a post solves your problem!
