ssrs 2008 - credentials login prompt
Hi Everyone - This login prompt/authentication issue has been giving lots of people trouble for a few years based on all the stuff retrieved by search engines. I've been fighting this login prompt issue for a few days now with limited success. I've read through most of the information found on blogs and forums, but I haven't found any real true solution to this issue. I have a machine with Server 2008, IIS 7 & SQL 2008 Standard w/cumulative update package 9. I also have a router with an external IP that routes all port 80 traffic to this machine's internal IP/port 80. I can hit port 80 from inside and outside my network without issue. When I use the internal IP or "localhost" I can hit the report server without any login prompt - I can even get to it from my development machine using the external IP. But when I am logged on to the actual Server 2008/IIS 7/SSRS 2008 machine and try to access the report server using the external IP it prompts for login credentials and it does the same same thing when I try to access it from a computer at home. I've gone through all the exercises regarding rsreportserver.config & RSWindowsNTLM/RSWindowsNegotiate authentication, etc. without success. I have an ASP.NET Silverlight 4 application which calls reports using the following URI format "strReportURI = "http://xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx/ReportServer/Pages/ReportViewer.aspx?%2fReport+Project1%2fSurveyList&rs:Command=Render&PROJECT_NAME=" + MainPage.ProjectNameForCompanyClientUser + "&PROJECT_NUMBER=" + MainPage.ProjectNumberForCompanyClientUser + "&rc:Parameters=false";" This has to work with both IE, FireFox and any other browser supporting Silverlight, so the notion of changing the security settings for IE is not a solution. Does anyone out there really know how to configure SSRS 2008 so that it can be accessed from anywhere in the world using the most common Internet browsers? I'm willing to do a Fuze/GoTo Meeting session to expose my development machine and server with someone who really knows how to fix this issue. Please help, I'm ready to kick SSRS 2008 to the curb and bring back Crystal...Thanks, SuperBubba

Hi SuperBubba, In case we use Windows Integrated authentication to access a Report Server, the credential for the client will be passed to the Report Server. However, the credential from public network won't be able to pass in a site inside a privale network automatically by default. That is why the login dialog prompt while we trying to access the Report Server from anywhere in the world. We can use one of the workaround to workaround the issue: 1. Ask the end-uses to type the valid username and password. 2. Enable Anonymous Access for the Report Server. Please NOTE, this will reduce the security level of the Report Server. In Microsoft SQL Server Reporting Services 2008, we need to implement custom authentication extension to enable anonymous access. For more information about enabling Anonymous Access, please see: http://blogs.msdn.com/b/jameswu/archive/2008/07/15/anonymous-access-in-sql-rs-2008.aspx If you have any more questions, please feel free to ask. Hi Jin Chen, I tried the above workaround, but no luck. Is there any correction in this? can you help me to resolve this issue? Security is not a concern in my case. Thanks, Selva
