I would like to give feedback to the sql reporting services advanced team I would love to see sql report viewer using silverlight I am a bit disappointed that it is not available now.Can we expect this in with vs 2010? Thank you

A Silverlight version of the report viewer control will not ship as part of VS 2010. The VS 2010 report viewer control is adding support for the 2008 RDL schema as well as enabling the Report Viewer Control to work in an update panel for AJAX based applications. We are definitely investigating Silverlight, but we do not have any specific plans to announce at this time, but we do appreciate the feedback and for those of you that are interested in a Silverlight version of the Report Viewer Control or other Silverlight based scenarios for SSRS, please feel free to continue the discussion here or send your suggestions to the team. Oh yes, yes, yes!!! Report Viewer in WPF and Silverlight is a must for Enterprise apps. Just search on-line "Report viewer Silverlight" and you see how many people are beggingfor it and how many people refused to adopt Silverlight because there is no reporting control. Silverlight is a great idea, but stil does not work for BI. I think IFrame looks ugly by the way.Report viewer should have been in Silverlight 1, and it is not even in 3. 2010 must have it.

I aggree, I would love to see a silverlight report viewer control for ssrs 2008. Have a look at http://www.perpetuumsoft.com/Silverlight-Viewer-for-Reporting-Services.aspx. The only problem with this control is it's valid only for ssrs 2005, come on MS you can do it!Daniel K Ward

IMHO it's not will you do this it's when will it ship.

These guys have a control http://www.silverlight.net/community/samples/silverlight-samples/silverlight-viewer-for-reporting-service/ It looks good but I would never want to tie our software to a 3rd party component that Microsoft will probably eventually do better than. Reporting Services is a Microsoft Technology and you can't rely on 3rd parties to make sure that the technology is up to date and correct. Please Microsoft! Can we have a control?

We are developing our application in Silverlight 4.0. We have prepared some reports in SSRS 2008 R2 but silverlight does not provide Reportviewer control. How can i call my SSRS remote report in my silverlight Application? I have also explored Telerik Report Viewer but The Telerik Report Viewers have been created with the sole purpose of displaying Telerik Reports. Telerik Reporting is a standalone reporting offering and not an addition to SSRS and in fact it is meant as a replacement for SSRS. So if I want to use a native Silverlight viewer, I should migrate my SSRS reports to Telerik Reporting. I have also explored PerpetuumSoft Viewer(<cite>www.perpetuumsoft.com/Report-Sharp-Shooter.aspx</cite>) but i think, I coudn't be call my SSRS 2008 R2 remote mode(Microsoft.Reporting.WebForms.ProcessingMode.Remote) reports using this third party tool even though i do not get any much help or any sample(Call SSRS using PerpetuumSoft Silverlight Reportviewer) on this third party(PerpetuumSoft) site. If any one use Call SSRS using PerpetuumSoft Silverlight Reportviewer then give me details. Hi Dan We have used an embeded HTML PlaceHolder and yep the results aren't good, passable for a proof of concept. call the report through the webservice and assign the output HTML to placeholder. Really depends on what you want to display. The PlaceHolder does not work well if you have popups / dropdowns or menus which you expect to overlay the placeholder. If you have a full page report you may get away with it. I also got the webservice to return the report as an Image and displayed in an Image control, but of course no click through capability then. One gotcha yoyu may have to deal with using this technique is exposing an endpoint for a crossDomain/policy file to satisfy the Silverlight call to SSRS. In all my experience was a whole lot of effort for very little reward for something which just should be there. Probably will make a choice between Silverlight or SSRS in LOB application, or maybe neither , as no real encouraging sounds coming from Microsoft and have already waited too long !

Hi Sean, Any news? We are now developing all new business applications in Silverlight. We are also migrating all our WPF apps across to Silverlight. We use SSRS 2008 internally and generate thousands of reports. We really do need Microsoft to continue developing the ReportViewer control, so it can be used in both Silverlight, WPF and even ASP.NET. If Microsoft wants developers to support and adapt their new technology platform releases, they must give us the ability to re-use funtionality we've used previously. Please, please, please release provide us with this control. Thanks, Harvey
