solution package - query
why do we need to use "addsolution" as it simply store the solution package in the solution store, if we want to deploy the solution package anyway we have to execute "deploysolution" command so why can not we directly use "deploysolution" instead of adding and deploying the solution package?as far as I know, the usage of addsolution could be the solution package will be stored/avail in the solution center so if we want to deploy the same solution package later on then we can simply use the solution package as it is already availed in the solution center.this there any other purpose behind this?Karthikeyan | MCTS | India

to use de deploysolution you will need to add the solution "you only add 1 time, or make the upgrade solution, if you change your solution", to your Farm on central administration, the command deploysolution will manage to add the features, dll and changes on web.config to the Sharepoint Site you want, in a safe way without change other sites. The addsolution only add wsp solution to be a simple way to manage Solution and impacts on your Sharepoint Sites. Check out this article, I think it describes it clearly- http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/magazine/cc163379.aspx Here is a quote from the article:"Once you have built a solution package such as OfficeSpaceFeature.wsp, you deploy it within a SharePoint farm in two distinct steps. The first step is installation in which WSS copies the .wsp file to the configuration database. The second step involves the actual deployment in which WSS creates a timer job to be processed by all front-end Web servers in the server farm. The important observation here is that WSS automates solution package deployment across all the front-end Web servers in the farm to ensure a consistent deployment."~Jennifer Mason ~My Blog~ ~SharePoint Support~ ~SharePoint Training~ ~Follow me on Twitter!~

Im trying to understand that why should it copy the .wsp file into configuration database and why can not it directly deploy the .wsp files?Karthikeyan | MCTS | India

So that it can create a timer job and deploy it to the environment. Is there a reason you are looking to have more detail? I am not sure if you are going to find any more of a specific answer. ~Jennifer Mason ~My Blog~ ~SharePoint Support~ ~SharePoint Training~ ~Follow me on Twitter!~

I repeat you will allways need to add solution, then you can deploy, if you make a Migration of Sharepoint Content Database, the .WSP will not came and you will need to addsolution again then you can deploy. Just curious to know do you mean to say that addsolution will keep the required files (.xml, .dll, .aspx) in the configuration (CA) database? if so, will the files removed (frm the configuration db) once the .wsp deployed?Karthikeyan | MCTS | India
