software updates in CM2012

hi, I recently took over our ConfigMan 2012 server and I am trying to do the software updates.   I'm pretty new to this product so bare with me.  under my software updates node I've done a synchronize software updates.   I opened up my log file named wsyncmgr and most files were skipped.  I did see a few lines of data that showed me things did in fact sync.  Example of a successful update.

Synchronizing update 2261358b-eedc-4825-8114-ef7011072e88 - Windows Internet Explorer 7 for Windows Server 2003 x64 Edition and Windows XP x64 Edition

Synchronizing update c704787d-976d-406d-828b-9f1aca4430de - Windows Internet Explorer 7 for Windows Server 2003 for Itanium-based Systems

But then I see many failures that say (The Microsoft Software License Terms have not been completely downloaded and~~cannot be accepted. Source: Microsoft.UpdateServices.Internal.BaseApi.SoapExceptionProcessor.DeserializeAndThrow)

When I view the most resent updates I only see updates to June 2015.  Nothing from July & Aug.   MS15-064 is the most resent bulletin ID I have.

not sure why and the tech I replaced is no longer with our company.    Guidance would be appreciated.

I found my SUP settings and there is no proxy settings at all on our configman server.   my SUP settings are as follows.

port number 8530.  SSL port 8531.  Allow intranet-only client connections.  Use credentials to connect to the WSUS server.  The account being used works.   under the part that says (software update point proxy server settings) both check boxes are empty and I can't change them.  They are in a state of grayness and I can't change the settings.

This obviously used to work since we have updates up to June of 2015.  Something must have changed but I've yet to find it.    Our configman server is also our WSUS server.  I've confirmed in control panel we turn off all firewalls.   I opened up the windows server update services and I see updates from Tuesday Aug 11, 2015 so they have been downloaded, they just don't show up in the Configman console.

if you have more advice I'm all ears!!

I did see this in the wsyncmgr.log file which seem to show it is working.    Still nothing past June ever shows up in the console tool.

I deleted the SUP role from my 2012 server.   I then added it back and ran a sync.  thousands and updates where pulled down.  But nothing past June of 2015.   what would cause such behavior?
September 1st, 2015 2:53pm

each time I run my sync it either skips downloads or it syncs update.  but each time at the end of the sync I get this.  this is the bottom of my log file.  I don't understand why all updates up to June of 2015 are downloaded but nothing past that point.

Hi,

Please try the method as below. You could also check Gerry Hampson's solution.

"For me I unselected all Classisfications in SUP, ran wsusutil reset, ran another sync, re-added Classifications, and the flood gates opened."

https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/0480260b-b79a-458b-b9d7-b8ebc12651c8/failed-to-sync-update-error-the-microsoft-software-license-terms-have-not-been-completely?forum=configmanagergeneral

Ok, I did that and now it is worse.   I did the following.  I un-selected all classifications.  ran wsusutil resent (which, by the way only ran for about 1 second).   I then did a sync.   I then re-added my classifications and did another sync.  Now I have nothing from 2015 :-(  All it downloaded was old patches.  The newest thing I have downloaded is from 2014.

And when I look in WSUS which is on the same server, our cm2012 primary box, it does have all the patches.  it has Aug 2015 critical patches).  Why does WSUS have everything but not.

I seem to be in reverse right now !!   I did disable McAfee on the cm2012 server to be sure that was not causing bad things to occur.   Still the same results.

I've also noticed that I only have 1,230 software updated downloaded.  Which is far too few.   and most do not have a bulletin ID.

I removed the SUP role and the WSUS role.  rebooted my server.  Added the WSUS and SUP roles back.  Ran updates and it seems to have worked.  I have no errors in my log file.    But I still don't have any Bulletin IDs that are MS15-   the most resent MS number I see is MS10-.   Yet I do see updates from Aug of 2015.

how come I don't have any MS15 bulliten IDs?   Do I need to pull down specific updates?  I am only pulling down critical, service packs.  nothing else.

Updates which have MSyy-nnn bulletin Ids are of the Classification=Security. Have you enabled that classification?

Yes, I added that and now it all works.  I'm not sure what effected our server, perhaps a virus.  But removing the SUP and WSUS roles and adding them back solved our issues.  We now have all patches through Aug of 2015.

Cheers!
