software distribution not showing in RAP
hi awesome people, I've been scratching my head on this, very frustrating. I've tested on 2 clients and having exactly the same problem. OSD is showing in the RAP OK, it's just the software distribution, not sure why it's doing it. Any idea please? Cheers, Xm

Have you selected the "Allow users to run the program independently of assignments" option in advertisement. Are you using mandatory advertisements; i.e., those with a scheduled install time? If so, those will not show up in the Run Advertised Programs (RAP) applet. For client installation issues, check out this great KB article: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/925282. It is written for SMS 2003 but nearly all the information is applicable to ConfigMgr. Hope this will be helpful....Zulqarnain Ali | MCTS, MCSA | Please remember to click Mark as Answer on the post that helps you, and to click Unmark as Answer if a marked post does not actually answer your question. hi An00p, it's no mandatory assigned program. And the "Allow users...." is actually grayed out.

hi Zulqarnain, no, it's not mandatory... I had seen that article, quite along one :-), can you help point me to a direction on that article where this be a client issue and how to fix it. I've looked through all the client logs, there is nothing obvious, all seems good.

Just look up the advertisement status messages if the clients received it at all. Any chance that you're using RDP to connect to the clients?Torsten Meringer | http://www.mssccmfaq.de

If you are using RDP to connect to a client the default behavior is that RAP does not display anything. hi Trosten, No, i'm not using RDP, log on through the console. The status says none received, anywhere I can find to see what's causing it?

Can you see any traces of advert or policy on the log files? policyagent.log and Smscliui.log ?Anoop C Nair - Twitter @anoopmannur MY BLOG: http://anoopmannur.wordpress.com SCCM Professionals This posting is provided AS-IS with no warranties/guarantees and confers no rights.

hi An00p, All I can see from smscliui.log below. policyagent.log seems ok - any particular thing we're looking for? below says found 4 but only 3 advertised - I can only assume 3 is the OSD package I have which means the one that is missing is the Software package, which is the issue that I have here, but a shame the log does not tell why and what's causing it? hi Anoop, yes have tried that three times, have tried creating a new package as well to no avail - still the same problem, quite frustrating really because the log does not say anything. do you think it'd have to do with WMI coz I read somewhere that could be causing issue on the client side?

Is this happening for all the clients or only for some clients? Did you try to connect to the client through clientcenter and try to run the advertisment? How about if you make it mandatory?Anoop C Nair - Twitter @anoopmannur MY BLOG: http://anoopmannur.wordpress.com SCCM Professionals This posting is provided AS-IS with no warranties/guarantees and confers no rights.

so far I've deployed it to 3 clients and the three have exactly the same issue. Can you explain more about what you mean by "clientcenter"? I'll try the mandatory scenario and let you know.

hi An00p, it's no mandatory assigned program. And the "Allow users...." is actually grayed out. Check the Packages Program, on the Environment tab, does it say "Only when no user is logged on"?

It's set up to run with admin right "Whether or not user is logged on". Cheers.

By "Client Center", we mean Roger Zanders' Client Center. It's a way to remotely see tons of information about a client--like what advertisement policies are deserved. So... here's a basic checklist. Package content available on the DPs? The Advertisement is targeted to a collection with that computer in it? You've confirmed the guid on that computer object in that collection is the same one that is that particular client (use Client Center to see the guid; or it's in the control panel applet too, locally). The advertisements a) has a Advert Start time of sometime before 'now', b) either has no advert end date or the end date is much further in the future from 'now'. c), either there is NO mandatory date, OR if there is a mandatory start date, you've checked the option about "Allow users to run regardless of assignments". d) the program in that package is not "disabled" The advertisement is not disabled or expired. oh, and just in case... extremely unlikely but just in case... check that the date/time on the client is correct.Standardize. Simplify. Automate.
September 18th, 2011 8:43pm

Thanks Sherry, 1. yes package on DP 2. yes Advert targeted to the collection, and it's proved by the OSD advert's that are showing on the clients. 3. GUID is correct a. yes advert start time is before now. b. no end date c. allow users... checked d. package is enabled. Time is correct too. This is actually the production environment. I have a test environment as well which SCCM software distribution works perfectly. And I've followed all the same steps as the testing environment. That's why it is so frustrating. Is there any log or some sort to check what's actually causing it?? Cheers..

hi Anoop, tried mandatory as well and still the same error.
