smsexec Fault
Hi, I installed about one month ago SCCM 2007 SP2 R3 on a W2K8R2 virtual machine, but I realized only few days ago that the origin of all my problems is due to the SMSEXEC process that goes in fault randomly. Looking for the log of this event I just found an Event Viewer entry (see below) but nothing else (no dump, no error entry on smsexec.log). Does anybody can help me? Thank you Pierluigi Event Viewer Entry: 17 Feb 2010:08:43 Faulting application name: smsexec.exe, version: 4.0.6487.2000, time stamp: 0x4ab33f1d Faulting module name: ntdll.dll, version: 6.1.7600.16385, time stamp: 0x4a5bdb3b Exception code: 0xc0000374 Fault offset: 0x000cdcbb Faulting process id: 0x160 Faulting application start time: 0x01cbce6ff250218e Faulting application path: E:\SCCM\bin\i386\smsexec.exe Faulting module path: C:\Windows\SysWOW64\ntdll.dll Report Id: a918d9af-3a69-11e0-bb62-00505688144c SMSEXEC.LOG - Log extraction for the time of Event SMS_NETWORK_DISCOVERY started, ThreadMain() thread ID = 4172. $$<SMS_EXECUTIVE><Thu Feb 17 08:42:00.271 2011 W. Bad news. Same behavior. I saw on link http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/configmgrgeneral/thread/784bbf68-6212-41b3-a85e-85177898f48a? that they refer to a possible antivirus problem, but in my case has not yet been installed. I'm really worried at this point.

Time to call CSS (Microsoft's customer support) as that problem goes beyond the possibilities of a forum.Torsten Meringer | http://www.mssccmfaq.de

Thanks' for the quick answer. Unfortunately I don't found any crashdump, but following the thread of the link that you have suggested, I ran the command "c:\> sfc /scannow" and I found a corrupted file (see extracted log below). So after that this has been repaired I made reboot and now I'm testing the system to see what happen. Pierluigi SFC /scannow (extract) 2011-02-17 11:13:59, Info CSI 000000d8 Hashes for file member \??\C:\Windows\System32\inetsrv\config\schema\WebDAV_schema.xml do not match actual file [l:34{17}]"WebDAV_schema.xml" : Found: {l:32 b:Knhmirs08AJcEy+EphSQaFsjm3tPV/6QdX+OZys90YI=} Expected: {l:32 b:onidoYEKVd8AzodN8XUSyqqA7ZgDyOwb3DHgENXJ/GE=} 2011-02-17 11:13:59, Info CSI 000000d9 [SR] Repairing corrupted file [ml:520{260},l:90{45}]"\??\C:\Windows\System32\inetsrv\config\schema"\[l:34{17}]"WebDAV_schema.xml" from store

Thank you for your help. I agree with you this sound as a more complex problem. Just last detail, in the mean time I found the Applic. crash repository but is not clear for me how to read the minidumps, are there some tools available? Pierluigi
