Hi Andy, This forum is for SCE server 2007 related issues. For problems with SMS server and agent, please check the resources available at: Systems Management Server Troubleshooting and Supporthttp://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sms/bb693345.aspx The newsgroups should be particularly helpful to you to get best resource. However, if you are willing to monitor your SMS server as SCE server's agent, you may need to download and install SMS management pack(MP) on Microsoft MP Catalog website, please get related MP from the link below: System Center Pack Cataloghttp://www.microsoft.com/technet/prodtechnol/scp/catalog.aspx How To Work with Management Packs http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb422900.aspx Hope this helps. We use Sysman SMS Server with MOM2005 and SCE2007. This is the best working solution. Homepage: www.sysman.no More info about Sysman SMS Server: http://www.sysman.no/downloads/productsheet_server_ENG.pdf

Hi Finn - To enable Short Message Service (SMS) notification in Essentials, follow these steps: 1) Administration space -> Settings -> General -> Notification -> Short Message Service. Enable. 2) Administration space -> Notifications -> Recipients -> New Notification Recipient. On Notification Devices tab, select Add. For Channel, select Short Message Service. Enter the phone number of the recipient. 3) Administration space -> Notifications -> Subscriptions -> New Notification Subscription. In the Recipients area on the General tab, select the recipient you created in the previous step. Good luck, / John Joyner / MOM MVP

Hi Finn, I am sorry if I mistakenly confused Short Message Service (SMS) with Systems Management Server(SMS). Here are some related information just as supplement for your reference:Webcast Video: Setting up Notificationshttp://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/opsmgr/bb498237.aspx <direct link> http://www.microsoft.com/winme/0703/28666/Notifications_Edited.asx For more detailed explanation, please see following TechNet articles: Notifications in System Center Essentials http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb437378.aspx How to Configure Notifications in System Center Essentials http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb437250.aspx How to Create a Notification Recipient http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb437325.aspx How to Create a Notification Subscriptionhttp://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb309608.aspx How to Enable an E-Mail Notification Channel http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb422904.aspx Run As Profiles and Run As Accounts in System Center Essentials http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb437225.aspx Hope this helps. Hi Robbin, may I suggest that you have another look at the question Finn posted? It is next to impossible to find solid, concrete documentation on the Short Messaging Service configuration for SCE 2007. Where, for instance, can we find the list of certified modems? And how do we handle this issue if SCE2007 is running as a VM? Please point to specific, accurate and authoritative information for installing and using this function. Regards, Peter

Hi Peter, Thanks for your questions. However, I did not find any concrete official documentation on the Short Messaging Service configuration for SCE 2007. Here is an article briefly introduces SMS function in SCE server:System Center Essentials Global Management Group Settings - Notification Dialog Box http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb437197.aspx For your reference, I found some extra information from the Internet about SMS: Short Message Service (SMS)http://www.mysecurecyberspace.com/encyclopedia/index/short-message-service-sms.html#msc.encyclopedia.sms About SMS or Short Message Servicehttp://www.textmefree.com/sms.html SMS Forum Discontinues Operationhttp://www.smsforum.net/ Short Message Servicehttp://www.tekelec.com/solutions/?solID=4 Please Note: Since the web site is not hosted by Microsoft, the link may change without notice. Robbin, thank youfor your quick reply. As you perhaps anticipated I'm not overlyimpressed by the level of documentation. If you have a channel for passing on customer input, please consider to pass on this issue. One might find it to be minor, but this only demonstrates a lack of understanding of the target user/customer. The primary purpose of SCE2007 is to REDUCE the time involved in setting up monitoring and management of SMB sized installations. By not documenting a core function (monitoring without the ability to alert is next to useless) too many people are wasting too much time. And what is worse-they anticipated the opposit. It would be so much better for all parties if your technical writerscould make a note in the public documentation stating that this will be documented in SP1 (my optimistic assumption ;-)). Along the same lines it would be nice if the system requirements would include a note that a distributed SCE2007 installation is not compatible with x64-based SQL 2005 servers. Thanks for your time. Kind regards, Peter

Hi Peter, I understand you concern and thank you for your feedback. I am sorry for the inconvenience this caused you. As we are still gathering feedback about SCE server 2007, this kind of issue may be improved in Service Pack 1 and I will forward your feedback to our related team. If there are any new documents related to SMS published, I will post the information here. As for SCE Database, SCE support Microsoft SQL Server 2005 SP1 Workgroup, Standard and Enterprise editions. If using x64 Windows Server, then 64-bit SQL must also be used. Also, if using a 64-bit remote SQL server, the Essentials server must also be 64-bit. The following list describes the Microsoft SQL Server versions and editions that are supported in System Center Essentials 2007. SQL Server 2005 Express EdiSQL Server 2005 Workgroup Edition SP1 or later (32-bit only)SQL Server 2005 Standard Edition SP1 or later (32-bit and 64-bit)SQL Server 2005 Enterprise Edition SP1 or later (32-bit and 64-bit) About System Requirements and Supported Platforms for SCE, please see: System Requirements and Supported Platforms for System Center Essentials http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb422876.aspx More information about SCE: System Center Essentials 2007 Online Helphttp://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb422837.aspx System Center Essentials Training Videoshttp://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sce/bb684945.aspx System Center Essentials Wikihttp://sce.editme.com/ Again, thanks for your time and efforts.
