site actions permission
I have few queries.
1) What permission level does the site actions button come under.
2) when i added a user in the owner group of a site in the site collection. the site actions menu is enabled for all the sites and the site collection.
The way i set the site is i had created the site with unique permissions. This had created members , owners and vistiors group. The users when they where added to the owners group, the site actions permission on the sites and site colelction where
suddenly enabled.
It looks like the owners group seems to spread the permission to the entire site collection.

Sharepoint provide hierarchy of user permission. If you want to give the permission at the site level then use the "Site Permissions" option in people & groups. By default every site inherit all permissions, users and groups from top level
site.
Suppose user A has the admin right of site A then add this user into site (dont add this user in group).
Second: if user A has only view right of site B then change the permission level by using "Site Permissions" option. Select user A and give respective permission.
You can also remove user from site if he / she doesnt have permission for subsite by using "Site Permission" option.
If you want to check the permission level for "Site Action" then go to Site Permission -->Settings --> Permission Level --> Select Permission.
Hope this will help you and let me know if you find any probCheers, Hemendra-MCTS

Hi Hemendra,
let me clarify the question for you.
1)A site has site actions. What permission needs to be set to enable/disable a user to hide the site actions button.
The second question is
the site has unique permission
1) when a user is added in the owners group of any site. The permission seem to go up and all the site above it. Even after i removed the person from the owner group the user seemed to have permissions to click the site actions button
but not access any site settings page.(strange)

HI Worldcup,
Ans 1:
First thing, you have not explore the permission level yet. See there are lot of permissions, which decide the site action enable / disable. By default every site is created with 4 permissions level _i.e. Full Control, Contribute, Design and Read Only).
If you give Read Only permission then Site Action wont be visible.
For example: If you give the "Apply Style sheet", Personal Permissions,
<label for="idspnidManageSubwebs">Create Subsites</label> , Manage Website, Apply Themes etc permissions to user then site action will be visible.
I will suggest you to go to Permission Level and explore them. It will help you lot to provide user authentication for any site, subsite, List or Document library
Ans 2:
If you follow the above step then you will come to know why it is happening.
It seems, you have remove the user from group but not from the site. Check user name by clicking "Site Permission" option and also check the permission for this user.
Let me know if you have any question.Cheers, Hemendra-MCTS
