sharepoint workflow send alert email on specific date

Hi all,

I'm new to workflows and am having difficulty figuring out how to set up a workflow to send an alert email 3 months prior to the contract Annual Renewal Date.

I'm aware that a timer job application would be far more stable then the workflow, however I do not have access to the central administration/Monitoring settings. I believe that a workflow will still work efficiently.

I would like the email to be sent to the listed Contract Manager (as shown on the list for each item under the field "Contract Manager". Each contract manager varies from contract to contract.)

If you could include any workflow screenshots with your solution I would appreciate the visual aid.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

You can create a calculated column of date type which can be set to the date of 3 months prior.

Now, create a SharePoint designer based workflow and there you can pause the state of the workflow until prior date is not achieved.

Thank you for the detailed explanation.

Will this also work on items that are already created ?

Hi Jasmine,

For a workflow, there are three options to start the workflow. They are:

1. Allow this workflow to be manually started.

2. Start workflow automatically when an item is created.

3. Start workflow automatically when an item is changed.

For existing items, you can start the workflow manually.

Thanks,

Wendy
