Did you try to create the backup in the local drive? Also refer to the following post http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/vi-VN/sharepointadmin/thread/5cb17a56-6fa4-4220-9d6d-4620fd03074f--Cheers

Hi, As far as i remember, Either it is permission issue of your network folder or database server service issue (which i don't really remember right now). Make sure that your network drive folder has the full permission of that account, which you are using while taking the backup. Make sure that your account has proper permission of database server too. I will suggest that, First try to take the back up from central admin and let us know your resultCheers, Hemendra-MCTS "Yesterday is just a memory,Tomorrow we may never see"

>A network-related or instance-specific error occurred while establishing a connection to SQL Server. The server was not found or was not accessible. Verify that the instance name is correct and that SQL Server is configured to allow remote connections Check the below points: 1. Make sure that you are passing right DB server name / IP 2. Make sure that User should have admin permission of your database server to create the new database Hope we could able to resolve itCheers, Hemendra-MCTS "Yesterday is just a memory,Tomorrow we may never see"
