i have virtual machin converted from live server using vmware tool to do this job. i want to develop and testing somthing on test server befour do it on live proudaction server. so i run the both virtual server in same box with vmware network . but in sharepoint application server it is display this error: Cannot connect to the configuration database one of my friends tell me to add the ip and server name in the host file inside this path C:\windows\systems32\drivers\stc\ i do it and when i make ping it pinging for both any idea about how to solve this Thanks for any help :) my blog is: http://www.waelk.com

The message you are seeing is displayed when the SharePoint web front end (WFE) server cannot connect to the database server. Ensure the correct database server name is configured in SharePoint Central Admin. Ensure that the WFE can ping the DB server. I would also try installing the SQL Server Management Studio on the WFE and trying to connect to the database server. Once that connection works, your WFE should connect just fine.
