sharepoint authentication on workgroup server
next pickle that I find myself in - I am installing WSS on a w2K8 server that will be just a work group server. I have loaded a few users (for testing) on the machine but not in active directory as it is in a workgroup. I cannot authenticate anyone but the administrator....how do I get users to authenticate when i dont use Active Directory. WSS 3.0 / W2K8 / NOT A DOMAIN SERVER

You can create local users on the server. Then you can give these local users rights to access the web site(s) etc. by specifying them as <servername>\localusername Give these local users passwords which do not expire otherwise you will have problems every time they expire. (This is bad security-wise of course) 2010 Books: SPF 2010; SPS 2010; SPD 2010; InfoPath 2010; Workflow etc. 2007 Books: WSS 3.0; MOSS 2007; SPD 2007; InfoPath 2007; PerformancePoint; SSRS; Workflow Both lists also include books in French; German; Spanish with even more languages in the 2007 list.
