I have a configuration baseline deployed with a schedule of running once a week. My question came up as I was wondering whether I could actually just manually run this on demand rather than on a schedule. Does 'Run Summarisation' actually do this? I'm thinking not and that it just basically re-checks against the data which the clients  reported back the last time the schedule ran?

Yes you can run this on demand based on your requirement. Run summarisation is to update the data in the console.

What's wrong with running it once per week? 
"Run Summ." just runs on the server side to summarize data and has nothing to do with the client-side schedule.
