sccm 2012 sql requirements
Hi, does new installation of sccm 2012 requires SQL server? could I use express edition? thanks

Configuration manager 2012 requires SQL Server yes. So no you can't use Express edition for primary sites. In 2012 the secondary sites use SQL Server Express.Mats Hellman | My Blog: http://www.nixadmins.net| Twitter: Mats_Hellman | LinkedIn Mats Hellman |

That's a licensing question. I would take it up with the company providing you licenses. If I remember correctly, and someone will probably correct me if I'm wrong, SQL Server for the products using it is included in Microsoft System Center 2012 Standard and Datacenter suites. The suites include all System Center products. The licensing just changed so you should follow up on this. I'm also not sure if this is volumelicense specific or not. So take it up with your license provider. And this is ofcourse SC2012 specific. Mats Hellman | My Blog: http://www.nixadmins.net| Twitter: Mats_Hellman| LinkedIn Mats Hellman|

Sure here is the link. http://download.microsoft.com/download/8/7/0/870B5D9B-ACF1-4192-BD0A-543AF551B7AE/System%20Center%202012%20Licensing%20FAQ.pdf 9. Are there separate offerings without SQL Server Technology? No. All System Center 2012 products include the right to run a runtime version of SQL Server Technology (SQL Server Standard Edition) to support System Center so there are no longer separate offerings. http://www.enhansoft.com/

What are valid use cases for SQL Enterprise instead of SQL standard? John Marcum | http://myitforum.com/cs2/blogs/jmarcum/| If you have a hierarchy with more than 50,000 clients (i.e. you deploy a CAS where there are more than 50K clients assigned to its child primary sites -- Note: this does not apply to a single stand-alone primary site), then you need to use SQL Server Enterprise Edition on the CAS (primary sites can still use Standard Edition). This is because we need to partition the data at the CAS for performance reasons when you get to that size of a hierarchy, and partitioning is not supported in SQL Server Standard Edition. If you already have valid licenses for Enterprise Edition, you can certainly use it on primary sites and/or on a CAS for a hierarchy with less than 50,000 clients, but you don't need it and it won't really provide you any added benfit from a ConfigMgr perspective. Disclaimer: As far as I know, in those cases where you do need Enterprise Edition on the CAS, you will need to purchase that one license separately. I am not aware of an option to get Enterprise Edition with your ConfigMgr or System Center suite license. However, since I am not a licensing expert, I would encourage you to speak with your licensing expert for all licensing-related questions.

Jim bet me to this but However IMO if you are going to purchase 50K of SC licenses, I am sure that the MS sales person will throw in SQL enterprise at no charge. But that is just my opinion. :-)http://www.enhansoft.com/
