report builder access
Hi ALL I have created a report in BIDS using the report designer, now how can i give access to the users to use those reports in report builder? And when does the report manager comes into picture? Does the user needs to install anything on his pc? When i created the report i saved the .rdl file and send it to my dba for deployment but just for my fyi is there any other way to deploy other than sending it to the dba to deploy it onto the report server? ThanksSV

Hi there, This is quite a general question on SSRS deployment and security. First of all book mark the following page; - http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms159106 Then assuming you are using SQL 2008 / SQL 2008 R2 I recommend you purchase the MCTS BI 2008 Book; - http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0735626367/ref=s9_simh_gw_p14_d7_i1?pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_s=center-2&pf_rd_r=05R21KHDBS5E8T4HCTRD&pf_rd_t=101&pf_rd_p=1389517282&pf_rd_i=507846 Chapter 11 covers deployment and Chapter 12 covers security. To give you a general answer ... Typically you develop a report model and deploy this to your report server from BIDs. As a BI developer you typically need to pick up some DBA duties as well. Normally a BI developer has full access to a test server in this scenario where you can give a few select users access to this test server after you have identified how to deploy a report and give yourself access to this report within report manager. When you reach the point of giving users access to report builder, the user will be promted to download report builder 3.0 the first time they click on the report builder icon within report manager. It may also be a good idea to clarify whether or not your production DBA has SSRS deployment / schedule / security / configuration skills. Kind Regards, Kieran.
