Ryan, When running SQL Server Management Studio, make sure to run it as Administrator or log in to your windows session using an account with admin privileges. Tom Overton

Sometimes with errors like that, you have to go to your service and change the account it's running under. You need to change it to run as "Local System". Right click on the service and select Properties and you will see where to change this. I think I had to do that before when I was pulling my hair out dealing with SQL Express errors and services not starting. Tom Overton

In that screen where you can start, stop, and pause the service (the one that's behind the error message in your original post), you can right click on the service and in the properties there should be a drop down box where you can select to run the service as "Local System". did you try that already?Tom Overton

If you go to Administrative Tools and under that you can find the Services icon. There, you will see all your services and you should have some related to SQL Server. For example the main sql server service will be "Microsoft SQL Server (SQLEXPRESS)" or something like that. Right click on the service and select Properties and find out what the login user is that the service is running under. Try some experiments and change it to Local System account and see if that helps. Tom Overton
