profile connection
Hi, I have a connection to my AD that works well but our email adress are not stored in AD but in a Lotus Notes DB. I made a second connection to that DB using a LDAP connection and it is working fine. The problem is that Sharepoint does not seem to be able to merge properties from both source to populate the user profile. In other wods, I can see the email adress and all the field imported from Lotus Notes when I view the users profiles in the SSP but the field does not get mapped when the user consult is "My settings". My questions are : IS it even possible to have multiple connection ? I guess so otherwise why would it be technically possible to do it ? If it is possible than how can I map the mail field to the one imported from lotus notes ? The only connection available is that "master connection". I have read this article from MSDN http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms585156(office.12).aspx but as often, it is not really clear about what works and what doesn't ! I understand that there can be only 1 master connection but what I want is my AD connection to be the master and my LDAP connection to be another non master connection. Thanks.Sylvain

Hi Sylvain, So this is a good question. There are two options that come to mind here. You could use Forefront Identity Manager (FIM), or a BDC (though you would need to know how to write the definition for this yourself -- which may take a long time). FIM will be able to synchronize the Lotus Notes e-mail addresses with Active Directory and, from that point, you would be able to complete the import via SharePoint. Here is an excerpt from Technet's Understanding Forefront Identity Manager 2010. Heterogeneous identity synchronization & consistency. FIM 2010 delivers integration with a broad range of network operating systems, e-mail, database, directory, application, and flat-file access. FIM 2010 supports connectors for Active Directory, Novell, Sun, IBM, Lotus Notes, Microsoft Exchange Server, Oracle databases, Microsoft SQL Server™ databases, SAP and others. This provides organizations with the power to connect and synchronize the plethora of disparate sources of identity information in their company—in most cases without the need to install software of any kind on the target systems. Since in some cases it might be necessary to connect to custom or legacy applications unique to a specific organization, FIM 2010 extensible agent capabilities enables companies to integrate and manage identities for these applications through developing custom agents in the Microsoft Visual Studio® development environments. Thanks!

Thanks Tracyp for pointing FIM for this. But can you explain more about the connection pusporse? I mean, why can't we set up as many connection as we want if it does not work ? I knew about BDC but I dont want to go into coding anything. I deleted to connection to the AD so there was only the LDAP connection to Lotus Notes left and the email field still did not get mapped. I see the email adress imported from Lotus Notes when I go in the SSP to view the users profile but it doen't get replicated to the user parameters.Sylvain

Hi, After importing from LDAP, you need to map it profile properties. Please refer to this non Microsoft site, it gives a good explanation: http://sharepointmagazine.net/technical/administration/everything-you-need-to-know-about-bdc-part-6-of-8. Though it may talk about BDC, it gives you the idea of what needs to be done. Basically it boils down to how you map everything. Tracy suggested FIM since it would be an easier route since you will just be pulling from AD only.Regards, Savoeurn Va Microsoft Online Community Support

Actually it is not possible to specefy the mapping int the profile properties. The only connection available is "master connection" wich is by default the one to the AD. I'm suspicious about the provider value entered when I created the connection to Lotus Notes but I can not find any real valuable information about that filed. It just looks like it is a text field with no real purpose except to distinguish from what connection come a profile when you view the profile. Because we currently have ILM 2007 we might choose to go that way. ThanksSylvain
