problems when using stsadm backup/restore to go from MOSS to WSS 3.0.
Hi , I recently encountered this issue. It goes like this: I have a MOSS site with 2 document libraries in it(NPI & ECN). We use it for storing Excel documents and some workflows in it. We ‘ve had to move this site to WSS now. So I performed a stsadm backup restore . I was able to do it without any error messages from the stsadm. However when I try to browse to the site, im able to navigate into the NPI document library – No issues, but when I try navigating into the ECN document library I get this following error message: ------------------------------------------------ Go back to site Error Field type TargetTo is not installed properly. Go to the list settings page to delete this field. Web Parts Maintenance Page: If you have permission, you can use this page to temporarily close Web Parts or remove personal settings. For more information, contact your site administrator. Troubleshoot issues with Windows SharePoint Services. ------------------------------------------------ The stsadm command that I have used for the backup/restore is as follows: Backup From MOSS server: stsadm.exe -o backup -url http://prodsite/sites/ABC -filename d:\sitebackup\290310.dat Restoration Onto new WSS server: C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Web Server Extensions\12\BIN>stsadm.exe -o restore -url http://devsite/sites/ex -filename D:\Installation\sitebackup\290310.dat Operation completed successfully. I was wondering if you have encountered such issues with MOSS/WSS site backup restore. If it’s a MOSS specific field type , how do I have it removed from my restoration to WSS. Thank you so much! Kind Regards, Mahesh

Hi, I am just extending the idea/lead which Mike has already provided you. There are lot of features which are not available when you move back to WSS 3.0 but still you can shun non-matching features in WSS. Look up these links for instructions: http://blog.thekid.me.uk/archive/2008/10/16/exporting-a-team-site-from-a-moss-installation-to-a-wss-installation.aspx http://blogs.technet.com/wbaer/archive/2008/01/01/microsoft-office-sharepoint-server-2007-to-windows-sharepoint-services-3-0-site-level-migration.aspx Does this help, let me know BR, PM

Hi ,I deleted away the field (TargetTo )that was causing a problem and then managed to take a backup of my MOSS site and got it restored to WSS. For sometime everything fine. Then recently i had to open my new WSS site in sharepoint designer. THats when i noticed this new error:Master Page Error : The Master page file 'http://xxxx/etc/_catalogs/masterpage/default.master' cannot be loadedAttach a different Master pageI clicked on the Attach a different Master page and choose Custom Master page.I then get this error in the Message Details boxsoap:ServerServer was unable to process request. ---> Field type ContentTypeIdFieldType is not installed properly. Go to the list settings page to delete this field. I then pulled out the FeatureAdminTool.exe and had all faulty features removed from my new WSS site. However im still getting the error when i try to open the WSS site in sharepoint designer. Thanks,Mahesh
