package copying issues
Hi All,
Wish you a Happy New Year 2012.
I’m facing issues with package distribution to primary, secondary and DPs.
It is showing Install pending state for long time. it is happening for only one location primary,Secondary and DPs.
Package stuck at some point of time and showing install pending status.
If I reboot the primary server and remove package from Primary, SS and DPs and again if I redistribute it is copying.
But I cannot reboot server for each and every package.
How to monitor once we copy package to DPs. (primary, SS and DPs) is there any tool for that..any logs..
I know that we need monitor distmgr.log, despool.log.. But that is not clear.
I mean how much bandwidth is using for one DP. How much % copied...Like that
And
I’m able to see few file extensions while package copying like
.PCK,.PKN,.ICO,.NAL etc., can anybody explain what is these files…
Thanks in advance!!!

See, the details in the below blog post (the distribution process is explained in details in that post). Even, you can have a look at the flowcharts available in the technet for more details.

All communication between sites can be monitored by reading the sender.log on the site server. Once the package has been received on the child site (and when it's prepared on the central site), track the activities in the distrmgr.logKent Agerlund | My blogs: blog.coretech.dk/kea and

pkn is package notification file when it writes to distmgr.box folder
for each package, sccm(distmgr) will create 3 files i.e pkg--package,program detials information ,NAL--distribution Points,.ICO--Icon file information.
For more info about troubleshooting packages between the sites, look at this technet link with flowcharts
