office 2007 distribution
I had this working at one point but since I had to rebuild the system I haven't been able to recreate the process correctly.
For testing purposes I copied the entire Office2k7 install directory locally to the C drive of a test machine.
The first part of the process works fine which is uninstalling Office Enterprise 2007. The command is: setup.exe /uninstall enterprise /config .\enterprise.ww\uninstall.xml
The next step is to install ProPlus and I have modified theproplus.ww\config.xmlas such: <Configuration Product="ProPlus"> <Display Level="none" CompletionNotice="no" SuppressModal="yes" AcceptEula="yes" /> <Logging Type="standard" Path="%temp%" Template="Microsoft Office Professional Plus Setup(*).txt" /> <Setting Id="Reboot" Value="never" /> </Configuration>
I also have placed the ProPlusSilentInstall.MSP file created from OCT at the top-root folder along with setup.exe and have tried a number of different install commands but to no avail.
setup.exe /adminfile ProPlusSilentInstall.MSP /config proplus.ww\config.xml --> setup.exe ran in TaskMgr for a moment and disappeared setup.exe /config proplus.ww\config.xml --> setup runs and says it finished successfully but it isn't listed in Start - Programs or in Add/Remove Programs

I tried moving the MSP file to the Updates folder and ran the same commands above with the same results.

I feel like I'm running in circles. Can someone clarify the correct procedure?
Thank you.

I don't see that ConfigMgr is involved there. I would have a look at an Office related forum or http://www.appdeploy.com

Hi rsmccall ,

To analyze you can refer the log file under %temp% folder & the log file in the name as
SetupExe(200910261538221184.log
which means setup.exe + 2009 + 10 + 26 + 15(3pm) + 38(min) + 22(sec) + 1184 (millisec)

The silent installation option can be any one of the following according to the use of msp / config.xml

  • \\serverName\<ShareName>\setup.exe /adminfile \\serverName\<ShareName>\<MSP File name>
  • \\serverName\<ShareName>\setup.exe /config \\serverName\<ShareName>\proplus.ww\config.xml
For Reference you can download the software deployment guide available in the below url

http://www.manageengine.com/products/desktop-central/software-deployment-guide.html

And also you can use Desktop Central to deploy the same for multiple computers

Hope this helps .

Thanks

I'm using SCCM to push this out. It distributed the office2k7 install files to the laptop, ran the uninstall of enterprise and succeeded, and then ran the install of proplus and says it succeeded but in fact in only ran 55seconds and didn't install anything. Setup.exe will run in taskmgr for a minute and disappears.
I edited proplus.ww\config.xml, placed ProPlusSilentInstall.MSP in the Updates folder and ran the command: \\uws02-sv001\sms_uws\office2k7\setup.exe /config \\uws02-sv001\sms_uws\office2k7\proplus.ww\config.xml
and that results in the same issue, it runs for a minute and quits.
I've tried to use the adminfile switch too but to no avail. I placed ProPlusSilentInstall.MSP at the root level and ran: \\uws02-sv001\sms_uws\office2k7\setup.exe /adminfile \\uws02-sv001\sms_uws\office2k7\ProPlusSilentInstall.MSP
and again, same results, ran for a minute and quit.

The MSP file is in the updates folder. I have the office install directory copied over to C:\office2k7 From the command prompt I tried: c:\office2k7>setup.exe /config .\proplus.ww\config.xml
This setup opens a window and says that Microsoft Office Professional Plus 2007 is installing; it runs for about a minute and says that it finished successfully. So I go to Start - Programs and nothing is listed for Office and not in Add/Remove either. There are no other versions installed at all and I deleted the Office directory and reg keys.

It appears then that Torsten's answer stands. If you cannot run it with that command string locally then it appears to not be a Config Mgr issue but rather with Office or specifically the command line. I would recommend his advice and post on the Office forums he provided a hyperlink to...

No need, I think I've got it figured out. In the midst of completing testing. Will post results when finished.

Torsten was correct in saying that it isn't a SCCM problem, and I understood that when I started this thread. Anyhow I solved the problem; it was related to the config.xml file.
I had to comment out the LIS tag. As you can see in my previous post above the LIS tag is open and = to CacheOnly. This setting was preventing Office from being installed. It would cache the files only and not install. Once I commented that tag out the setup command worked fine.
New proplus config.xml file: <Configuration Product="ProPlus">
<Display Level="none" CompletionNotice="no" SuppressModal="yes" AcceptEula="yes" /> <Logging Type="standard" Path="%temp%" Template="Microsoft Office Professional Plus Setup(*).txt" /> <PIDKEY Value="xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx" />
<USERNAME Value="%username%" /> <COMPANYNAME Value="Universal Well Services, Inc." /> <INSTALLLOCATION Value="%programfiles%\Microsoft Office" /> <!-- <LIS CACHEACTION="CacheOnly" /> --> <!-- <SOURCELIST Value="\\server1\share\Office12;\\server2\share\Office12" /> --> <!-- <DistributionPoint Location="\\server\share\Office12" /> --> <!-- <OptionState Id="OptionID" State="absent" Children="force" /> --> <Setting Id="Reboot" Value="never" /> <!-- <Command Path="msiexec.exe" Args="/i \\server\share\my.msi" QuietArg="/q" ChainPosition="after" Execute="install" /> -->
</Configuration>

Then ran: setup.exe /config .\proplus.ww\config.xml
and ProPlus installed successfully.
