Hi,

According to your post, my understanding is that you get an error in the document library.

You can try to add 'Non-Office' Content types like 'Picture', 'Basic Page',  and 'Link to a Document' to the document library, then check if the issue can be reproduced.

And try to check if you can see the icon for the document in the document library, if you can not, it may be caused by there is something error in docicon.xml file.

Locate in C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Web Server Extensions\15\TEMPLATE\XML.

Please check the docicon.xml  and check if missed closing tag for pdf and other custom icon.

You can refer this article to edit docicon.xml file:http://support.microsoft.com/kb/837849

Jason, I am getting the same error message: "'New Document' requires a Microsoft SharePoint Foundation-compatible application and web browser. To add a document to this document library, click the 'Upload Document' button."

My setup is the shipping version of Windows 10 (post July 29), IE 11, and a corporate intranet site running SharePoint Server 2010. We have a documents library with Word templates (dotx) that under IE 10 in Windows 7 we would just click on and they would open in Desktop Word 2013. Once we upgraded to Win10 it stopped working and threw that error message.  Is there a workaround other than reverting back to Windows 7/IE10 or trying Chrome (which I'm against doing)?

BTW, we can't use Edge for lots of reason so IE 11 is our default browser. We tried the latest production version of Firefox which works but also has become extremely slow to open the docs (~45-90 seconds).
