hi How can I move individual sites within a site collection from one DB to another? I knw sites can be exported and imported into another site collection but it doesnt save all the version history that way. so... is there a way to export and import and still retain all version history? Also, how can I check if there are unneccary data in my Sharepoint DB?

All sites within a site collection must be stored in the same content database. The only way to separate a site out to a different content database is by putting it in a different site collection that uses a different content database. To retain version history when moving a site you will need to look for a third party tool there is no way to do it in SharePoint out of the box. I'm not sure what you mean by unnecessary data in your SharePoint DB. If you mean is there a way to shrink your DB after deleting old information then the answer is to use the standard SQL maintenance tools.Paul Stork SharePoint Server MVP
