microsoftsecurityessentials

I turned my computer on and received a voice warning stating my computer was infected with viruses and to call 1-800-986-4560.

The other info was 247tech.help/crt/us_seg1902/multi_entry/micr_4560/   I seem to recall some dealings with this group that did

not suit me.  Is this a legal group representing microsoft?

No, it is not. I just received the same audio message, ostensibly from "Microsoft Security Essentials ".

The smoking gun? Microsoft Security Essentials is not installed on my computer; I am using "Avast Free Antivirus" on this system. The URL in my case (just a sub-string of it): ... /crt/uk_seg0303/micr_essen1_3723/index ...

There appears to be a country-specific element to this scam, hence the "??_seg" string in the URL.

This seems to be quite an aggressive attempt; it would be good to get some authoritative input on this...

I just tried this same URL on my BlackBerry (which is definitely not running Microsoft Security Essentials :) ) and

received the same aggressive popup, and the same background image as on my desktop. Clearly a scam site.
