machines always loading the x64 boot wim from PXE??!
whenever i boot a machine (optiplex 755) into pxe it always loads the x64 boot.wim. I want it to always load the x86 boot.wim because i am installing x86 install wims. is this expected behavour? One thing i am finding funny about this is when i first started using WDS i had hte opposite prblem. WDS would always detect x64 machines as 32bit and never give the option to pick x64 boot.wims.I ran a command on the wds server to fix it.

i also found this problem, when i used pxe boot for a wim capture, i set the dhcp 067 to boot\x86\wdsnbp.com, then in the sccm, i created a task sequence for capture with the win pe image x86, but when i processed this capture, it failed. when i create anothertask sequence with the same procss under win pe image x64, it is successful. More, when i used this captured wim file(x64) to deploy os with a task sequence under a win pe image x64, my os deployment failed, but when i used this captured wim file(x64) with the win pe image x86, it is successful.....it made me confused. i had check my captured pc( itisDELL Optiplex 745(cpu is x86) )

Both the Dell Optiplex 745 and Dell Optiplex 755 are x64 hardware, regardless of what operating system you run. The underlying processor has x64 extensions. When you PXE boot, the PXE process will detect that it is x64 capable and will initially load x64 PXE start-up code. Then when the PXE queries the ConfigMgr database and determines that the task sequence has a 32-bit boot image, the PXE server will eventually download the 32-bit WinPE. But you must have the x64 boot image on the PXE Service Point DP so that it can extract the x64 file needed to handle the early part of the PXE boot process when it detects x64 hardware. Also, you probably should not set the DHCP 067 options -- you shouldn't need those when using WDS as the ConfigMgr PXE Service Point.

i know 745s can be bought with Pentium 4s, is that whats in the the machine? Usually they have a core2 duo which is x64 which supports x86.

i had checked again my optiplex 745, it's cpu is intel 64(you must use some cpu information checking software to do the checking), and the os system is x86, sccm will first run x64 image to handle some early process, but the real capture PE image should be x86, so the capturedwim isbased onx86.

So what is the actual fix for all of this mess? I've loaded wds but it loads the windows files very slow. Almost 8 minutes just to get to the image screen. Someone suggested I copy the x86 files to the x64 folder. very slow...

is the SCCM support intel x64 processors by my workstation HP and has Intel vPro processor technology is the SCCM support this kind of processors to deploy OS on it? Thanks

Hi, Yes SCCM supports Intel x64 Processors, regardless if it's VPro or not. You can deploy an x86 or x64 OS on it. And if I'm not mistaken additional support will be added for Intel VPro/AMT in SCCM SP1. Cheers, Serge

Someone suggested I copy the x86 files to the x64 folder. very slow... I see the same behaviour. Downloading the initial boot image is very very slow (e.g. 8 minutes). but once I select the task sequence and the boot image associated with the TS starts, it is much faster. Downloading the 2 gb image is done in less than 1 minute.Seems like the new Dell machines with Intel Nic is much slower than older Dell with Broadcom Nic.Anyone ?Trond

I am using the the same machines: 745, 755, 760's. I can't get it to boot at all. It keeps trying to boot to to x86 no matter what! Did anyone get it speed up ?

I have more instresting problem with this - I have x86 based laptop (HP Compaq nc6220), and if x64 boot image is available, it will always boot from it, and get error message because of wrong architecture right away. All I could think of, I delete x64 boot image from smsimage DP for a while. Then it boots from x86 and task sequence list will appear.
