lookup column question
Hello, I have a list called TICKETS. One of the columns is called T-number and is a free text field. Another column is T-Type and contains a pulldown list of values. Someone enters a T-number and assigns a T-type. I have another list called ISSUES. One of the columns there is a lookup table to the TICKETS list for the T-number column. That works great. What I'd like to do now is also have a column to show the T-Type assigned to that T-number. Is this possible without code? thanks

In the WSS 3.0/MOSS 2007 version of SharePoint, this is not possible out of the box. -- Bryan Phillips MCT, MCSD, MCDBA, MCSE Microsoft MVP - SharePoint Services Blog: http://bphillips76.spaces.live.com Web Site: http://www.composablesystems.net

Dang - thanks Bryan for the quick answer. Do you know how hard it would be for a newbie to do this sharepoint designer? I've stayed away from SPD because I know I don't have a lot of time to get up to speed on it. If this can be done without a lot of pain in SPD I'd be willing to try it.

Hi, You may be aware of that it could not be achieved without programming. For your scenario, you can have a look at the following third part solutions: http://cascddlistwithfilter.codeplex.com/ http://www.sharepointboost.com/cascaded-lookup.html http://www.sharepointboost.com/lookupboost.html Hope this helps Thanks! Thanks Rohit but I'm not allowed to install anything in my environment. Even using SPD is frowned upon by my customer. I suggested they upgrade but they don't want to spend the time/money. My out of the box solution was to use a calculated column of type & number and use that as the loop up column in my second list. That's not really what they want, but at this point, it looks like as close as we will get. The more I use sharepoint the more I'm surprised at the lack of out of the box features....

As Bryan said, WSS 3.0/MOSS 2007 version of SharePoint, this is not possible out of the box. But the Moss 2010 provide this function out of the box. Thanks for your understanding.
