is it possible to have few web applications as Active/Passive mode??

Hi All,

FYI, i am setting up multi-tier farm with load balancer(Net-scaler) and servers are (2 WFE+2 DC + 2 APP + Cluster sql server). Now my manager wants to have Active/Passive mode for some web applications as those applications are for external users. As i know when we use load balancer all the WFE servers will act as Active/Active mode and Servers will work as redundant. if one WFE server goes down then other WFE servers will support,  Same applications will reside over all WFE servers and load balancer will distribute the request to the available server. so how it will be possible to achieve active/passive mode for few web applications and do round robin automatically monthly to check passive mode applications are working perfectly?

Thanks in advanced!

This isn't a function of SharePoint. You'll want to work with NetScaler to configure the NetScaler to perform Active/Passive management (but why would you? This makes no sense from a performance perspective).

Trevor,

As i have two WFE servers, can i do Active/passive for few web applications and Active/Active for few web applications or its just server level configuration from Netscaler perspective.

Thanks

No, that would be something you'd need to configure with the NetScaler. There is no concept of Active/Passive nodes with SharePoint for any service.
